when did you know you were a lovers fan?
  • A friend of mine in Atlanta would play lovers when I was over at her house and everytime
she did, I noticed that I liked them, but I never sat and just listened to them. Then she made
me a copy of their first two discs (don't worry, I own all three now!) to listen to over the
winter holidays. I was at my folks house with nothing to do, so I got out Starlit Sunken Ship
and put it on. I really liked what I was hearing and then "Winter Takes a Lover" played. I
cannot exaggerate enough how mesmerized I was. When the song was over, I had to stop
the disc and just sit in silence. I was totally blown away. That's when I knew, oh yeah.
    I was hooked. I was a fan.
  • My friend Arian was living in San Antonio, and I in Austin, and she had set up a show for a solo Carolyn show at a venue called The Church of The Friendly Ghost which dissapeared not too long afterwards. In preperation for the show, Arian lent me "Starlit Sunken Ship," which I enjoyed very much. And then I saw Carolyn play sometime later that week, and I was very impressed. She and her friend actually stayed at my place, and I skipped Jazz Appreciation class the next day to hang out with them. So after that show I knew Lovers were great, and I think the newest album is really ace as well. I'm looking forward to the future.
  • when I heard people in cars don't face each other on the radio at work one night, the local college station, which has plenty of power during the day, but at night, well the song was interupted by a baseball game and then would come back. but i was entranced by it, i knew i would buy the album long before it ended, i was going to call the radio station if the broadcast failed when the dj was telling us what song was playing. i went out and bought the frist two ablums the next day.
  • a friend made me a mix cd with "no words allowed" on it. as soon as i heard it i knew it would be one of those songs i'd listen to over &over &over. carolyn's voice was completely enchanting, &the lyrics were perfect. i got both of the albums &became completely obsessed with them; i was never so excited for any album as i was for "sleep with heat." coming from a girl who used to listen to nothing but hardcore [www.last.fm/user/ashleyACTION], it takes a lot for me to say that the three albums out now are by far my favorite ever released.
  • i was on this trip with FBLA (haha) and we went to the Irvine Spectrum and I saw KRS's 'Tracks and Fields'. I looked at the artists and i picked it up and heard 'birds in the sky'. at first i wasn't much of a fan because of her shaky voice, but after a few listens it started growing on me. a couple of months later i saw 'starlit sunken ship' at tower records. i don't know why, but i bought it despite my first impressions and of course i fell in love with it, haha.
  • It must have been in early 2004, on my way to school in the morning I was listening to Emerson College Radio and Carolyn was playing songs from her then new second cd live. I couldn't believe how wonderful she was, I just sat there in the car listening and was late for class. I bought the cd and saw her play solo live in Boston probably about a year later, where I bought the first cd and was again blown away. Now I've been enjoying the third cd and am waiting for more loveliness. Good to meet others who enjoy this music too!
  • Hiya don't, was that the May 05 show at zuzu with Soltero? Wonderful night.

dontknowmuch - saw her play solo live in Boston probably about a year later
